Microsoft no longer patches Windows 98, although it is an insanely popular OS (many argued that you should stay with it and not upgrade to XP before Service Pack 2 came out for XP because XP was buggy and full of security holes).
You have to serve your newest product.
|
Better example, but MS just stopped supporting Win98 and WinME a few months ago. Sooo, they pretty much continuted to support it for 8 years after it's release.
Gaile has said on several occasions that there would be no more updates for Prophecies, but why exclude it from events such as this? I do a little coding and I can't imagine that it would be any more difficult to increase the green drops Tyria than it would be for Cantha. But I feel like I'm beating the dearly departed horse. Anet isn't going to change their minds. I think we should move on and try to make the most out of what we're being given.

Except that Win98 isn't still in stores being actively sold to new customers, Prophecies is.
That, and Win98 was actively supported by MS for several years after the release of XP, not dumped immediately upon the release of a new product.

cool I might actually get my Ssyn's staff with henchies this time.
Sorry to hear about the unlucky drops for some of the people here. The first time I farmed Sskai I got about 5 of his greens in one day. :P

Supported yes, but given new features, no? The win98 example is ok, but a better one is Xp vs Vista, Vista is getting DirectX 10, Xp won't, though Microsoft will continue to support XP Sp2 for several more years after Vista is released in January (maybe).
As far as things still being on the shelf and available for purchase, you can still buy HalfLife AND Counterstrike: Condition Zero. Do you really think you get much in the way of anything as far as 'support' goes for those games these days outside of bug fixes to possible security holes

Yeah people really need to get over the "what not tyria" i would think by all this time you wouldn't be surprised. As someone said, once Nightfall comes out the same will happen to Cantha so rest easy. It's how the game works and if you don't like it there are other games you can try.

Meh. I'll just wait for prices to plummet (further) and then buy the few I want.

Yea it is >_> It might not be in Wal-mart anymore, but it can still actively go to a physical store and buy it. Some stores don't even carry many copies of Chapter 1 Guild Wars anymore.....
A better example might be other software, but the basic standard is once number 2 comes out number 1 just gets forgot about. Anet is acutally doing VERY GOOD by even minimally supporting Tyria (new greens, they got the new falg inferface in the preview, etc).

|
Its a bit late then. The price of the Scar Eater has been dropping slowly since Mo/E//E/Mo could farm it quickly. Kaolins dropped when they became easily farmed by A/E//E/A. All this does is prepare it for Nightfall... completely **** up the Canthan economy so people have more reason to buy Nightfall if they want to make money.

eh the only green i farm is scar eater and i get about 20 out of a 60 run so im happy as it is
the economy is always down anyway. but people still sell items for 100k + XX ecto and pppl still buy them.
ill bet when nigthfall comes out and people start farming greens they will be worth 100k + and people will still buy them even though they should know by now w8 1-5 days and the price will drop 60k at least and w8 a couple more and its like 10k

You know, if you look at the view point of "Why not to include Tyria" that has been stated several times, its a wonder they dont just suggest that the Tyrian servers be shut down.
"Its the old product so no one cares about it anymore" Well if no one cares about it anymore why even have it there?
If its going to stay up and people are still going to play in that campaign, then there should be special things going on in it. Maybe not at the same time as the Canthan events, but it doesnt mean it should be excluded entirely.
And as I recall, when companies like Microsoft stop providing patches for their products, usually independent software designers start. The downside here is, the ToS stops us from tampering with the software.
But the point is valid. Just because something is old, doesnt mean things stop getting done to improve it. And just because you're driving an old car, doesnt mean you cant drive it in the parade once in awhile.

Not like I really care that much..since chances are the only green I'll be getting is Arrahhsh's Aegis.Since it has the same stats as a Buckler I currently have but a different skin.

3 X 0.00000001% chance of green drop = ?
/offtopic:
As for the "Why not include Tyria mentality" theres is a simplier explaination.
If we look at the recent barrage of events of which some are factions exclusive only, it quite clear that faction sales/gameplay falls short of expectations and hence these weekend events were employed to keep player's attention to GW until the release of Nightfall while trying to selling a few more copies of factions before no one ever looks at it again once Nightfall is released.

Oh so true, and I agree. It's as if they're saying:
"Look, umm, Factions doesn't suck! Cause it's got, like, umm... events that, uh, Prophecies doesn't! See? Isn't that kickass!? So there! Factions doesn't suck!"
They have to frantically squeeze that last bit of toothpaste out of the tube before Nightfall comes, too. Since they probably realize that once Nightfall is released, everyone will pretty much be saying "Factions, what?" and "They have Chapter 1, and Chapter 3, but what was Chapter 2?".

That is so true, our guild was having a discussion about it, myself and a couple of others were like "I'm ditching Factions when NF comes out !" :P.

This is the first, and hopefully the last, post that I will do on these forums. Generally I just haven't felt the need to post anything, as I have been pretty happy with Guildwars in general, - both Prophecies and Factions. It's kept my spare time occupied for over a year now.
BUT, - all I ask is that this upcoming green weekend be extended to Tyria too. PLEASE!
